Surplus Lines Underwriter (E&S)
We’re partnering with a high-growth, specialty insurance platform seeking a broker-facing underwriter to join its expanding team. This role offers the opportunity to work on complex, non-standard risks while building strong relationships and developing a profitable book of business.
You’ll operate in a fast-paced environment with access to established broker networks, internal resources, and leadership support—providing a clear path toward increased autonomy and long-term income growth.
What You’ll Do
- Evaluate, price, and structure complex surplus lines risks across multiple industries
- Work directly with wholesale and retail brokers to negotiate terms and secure new business
- Manage the full underwriting lifecycle, including new submissions, renewals, and endorsements
- Develop and maintain strong broker relationships to drive consistent deal flow
- Apply underwriting judgment to balance risk selection and profitability
- Collaborate internally to align on appetite, capacity, and pricing strategy
- Contribute to the growth and profitability of a defined book of business
What We’re Looking For
- 3–5+ years of commercial underwriting experience, preferably within E&S or specialty lines
- Solid understanding of non-admitted markets and complex risk evaluation
- Broker-facing experience with the ability to negotiate and influence outcomes
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple accounts and prioritize effectively
- Commercial mindset with interest in developing a book of business
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in specialty lines such as construction, inland marine, transportation, or casualty
- Professional designations such as CPCU, AU, or ARM (or progress toward completion)
- Property & Casualty license (or willingness to obtain, if applicable)
