Network Infrastructure Manager

Job Description

The Network Infrastructure Manager is responsible for analyzing, designing, installing, configuring, maintaining, procuring and repairing all network infrastructure and application components. He/she will perform a wide variety of evaluation, maintenance, installation and training tasks to ensure the computer network performance meets company and user satisfaction. In addition, this person will also provide direction, information, and recommendations regarding network configurations and installations. This job will also be responsible for all end user support, backups, security, storage devices and all Disaster Recovery functions.

Major Responsibilities Include:
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the basics behind the Internet and its workings (DNS, Security, IP Routing, HTTP, VPN, Email Routing, SPAM, etc.)
  • Configure and setup Checkpoint Firewalls, VPN Concentrators, SonicWall, SpammerTRAP and other Security appliances for access to vital business applications.
  • Design, setup and configure complex switching environments.
  • Design, setup and configure complex wireless networking that supports open or secured access and the ability to support voice and video applications.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of Local Area Networking.
  • Assist in the design of multi-server environments including IP address schemes, DNS, WINS, Ether-Channel (Bonding), etc.
  • Configuring and installing client and server network software for upgrading and maintaining network and telecommunication systems.
  • Maintaining multi-site network operations and software applications, operating systems and regular maintenance within the company including load balancing, configuration, virtualization, licensing and maintenance expertise.
  • Managing assigned projects and program components to deliver services in accordance with established company objectives.
  • Responding to inquiries from users, staff, administrators, service providers, site personnel and outside vendors, etc. To provide technical assistance and support.
  • Supervising the administration of systems and servers related network to ensure availability of services to authorized users.
  • Troubleshooting malfunctions of network hardware and software applications, telephones and security systems to resolve operational issues and restore services.
  • Build and maintain good working relationship with key vendors.
  • Create and maintain blueprints/guidelines for deploying, maintaining, and troubleshooting network and cloud environments.
  • Automate monitoring, processes and procedures;work with our team to create both backend and user facing tools.
  • Stay up to date with latest security, load balancing and networking trends;undergo training for new products;test products and solutions in today’s world-class business environments.
  • Prepare, submit for approval and manage budget expenses including personnel and capital expenditures
  • Prepare and submit business plan to maintain and improve network functionality providing vision for both current state and future state performance objectives
  • Monitor, track and report on system reliability
  • Assist end user with multiple needs including training, help desk issues, general malfunctions, etc. Provide assistance and advice to users in the effective use of applications and information technology, and solve problems.
  • The position oversees and manages the rollout of new services and equipment, migration of applications to new releases, and conversion of services to new vendors.
  • Performs advanced problem diagnosis, problem recognition, research, isolation, and resolution of user’s technological issues.
  • Analyze systems requirements and existing business processes and information systems and makes recommendations for cost-effective information technology solutions.
  • Identify recurring problems, work with the 3rd party Infrastructure Support group to identify the root cause, then plan and execute the necessary steps to eliminate possibility of reoccurrences.
  • Troubleshoot more complex technical issues and identify modifications needed in existing applications to meet changing user requirements.
  • Oversee the building and configuring of new workstations for employees and user orientation. Configure operating systems, networking components, and PC software applications as required.
  • Provides oversight and support for the company’s VOIP phone system by configuring the phone system, on-boarding of new users as well as troubleshooting issues and escalating to the provider if necessary.
  • Oversees the inventory of all IT hardware and software resources, including documentation of vendor activities.
  • Leads software and hardware rollouts/upgrades including planning, testing, pilot testing, and compilation of training, support, monitoring, etc.
  • Support the firm’s Windows desktop and laptop environment.
  • Assists with and manage the Active Directory Domain environment used to support our organization
  • Various other duties and assignments as determined by management

Job requirements:
  • Degree in computer science, educational technology or equivalent combination of education and experience;IT technical certifications;and substantial experience working in the technology field
  • 5+ years of network management experience
  • Full-time dedicated employment status without conflicting “side business activity”
  • Effectively communicate with all levels of the organization, both orally and written
  • Ability to “think big" and challenge conventional wisdom
  • Ability to evolve with a rapidly changing business and environment
  • Previous management experience in a small to mid-size company
  • Deep expertise in infrastructure, including firewalls, load balancing and networks
  • Excellent communication skills and experience working externally with customers and/or partners
  • Excellent operational and delivery skills
  • Technical, analytical and interpersonal skills required
  • Current CCNA, CCDA and/or other equivalent Microsoft or Cisco certifications
  • Cisco Unified Communication Manager configuration and infrastructure a plus
  • Windows Server, Exchange and/or SQL experience a plus
  • Linux and Unix administration is a plus
  • Additional certifications required by management
  • Knowledge of VoIP implementation and support
  • Ability to integrate databases both manual (import/export) and automated
  • Maintain network security through proper configuration of VPN and Firewalls
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task in a small business environment
  • Availability to respond to needs of the customer for installation, maintenance and equipment malfunctions
  • In depth experience in designing, managing and/or assessing complex IT infrastructures
  • Anticipating future network needs, identifying proactive solutions to satisfy needs.
  • Reasonable travel requirements include daily trips 1 –2 times weekly with limited overnight stays
