One of our clients is seeking a dynamic Product Manager to join their team. Our client's Product Managers serve a critical role in the management and development of the organization’ s product portfolio. The role is Hybrid, but you do need to live in the KC Metro. Office hours are currently Mon/Wed/Fri in the office, and Tue/Thu work from home. If you love the Outdoors and Outdoor Products, you will love my client!



The Product Manager will be responsible for managing product development, product roadmap, and maintaining the product portfolio within one or more assigned categories. The Product Manager will be accountable for managing the New Product Development process, schedules, milestones, presentations, and support of product recommendations to management, sales, and customers.

Now for the important stuff:



This role’ s responsibilities will be split between new product development and product management. Essential Duties:

50% – Product Development
  • Research, initiate, and manage new products from concept to market within the New Product Development process. Includes vetting ideas from internal sources.
  • Perform market research and competitive analysis essential to product development or improvements, while critically and objectively analyzing the market needs, pain points, and desires of our target customers
  • Develop business case presentations with a market analysis of product opportunities across competitors, channels, and within the company's product portfolio. Present a thorough (appropriate) level of information and recommendations to company leadership to assist in making informed investment decisions.
  • Collaborate with a high-performance product development team including product, engineering, and quality members, through all product innovation stages to ensure strong competitive differentiation while also meeting time-to-market expectations
  • Adherence to the execution of schedules, milestones, and launch is critical. Manage project communications with internal stakeholders and external vendors/factories to ensure timelines are met.
  • Own assigned product category strategy and roadmap. Collaborate with the Senior Product manager to align category strategy with overall company goals.
  • Effectively communicate product features and requirements to internal and external development and manufacturing teams.



50% – Product Management
  • Manage the entire product lifecycle for assigned categories/products including strategy, development, launch, maintenance, and discontinuation. Develop and execute product activities to achieve revenue targets and support customer (internal and external) requirements.
  • Provide product performance reporting throughout its lifecycle, assisting the organization in data-driven decisions through analysis and actionable insights
  • Research assigned categories becoming the subject matter expert for the organization. Develop a deep understanding of what our products do and how they are manufactured. Continuously gather intelligence on competitors, markets, and consumers to identify opportunities or risks.
  • Exhibit ownership in the business by informing and advising product initiatives through actionable strategy and tactics that are executed on time and/or as required. Proactive problem solving is important.
  • Work with the marketing, product, quality, and engineering teams to help identify and implement product improvements
  • Work with procurement and operations team on product setup and product maintenance
  • Provide internal and external product education and training. Point of contact for escalated customer support issues.
  • Support sales team by preparing and attending annual retailers’ line reviews as needed
  • Collaborate with the marketing team on product go-to-market activities, including product messaging, materials, and managing launch projects. Support ongoing marketing initiatives by assisting with the creation of product content and sales/marketing materials.
  • Represent the company at industry tradeshows, events, and conferences

Experience, Skills, and Competencies Required:
  • Bachelor’ s degree in Marketing, Business, Product Design, Project Management or Communications
  • Minimum of 3 years of demonstrated success in marketing, product, project, or brand management role
  • Experience in general consumer products and/or passion for the outdoors a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required. Experience with Microsoft Project and NetSuite a plus.
  • Up to 30% Travel – Travel to the customer sites, tradeshows, and vendors as required. A passport is required for international travel. Domestic travel is normally 1-5 days, 3-5 times per year. International travel may be 14-21 days duration.

  • Business Acumen – Working knowledge of market-based pricing, retail or wholesale distribution; product pricing, business plan execution, drawing financial conclusions, risks, and outcomes from data and market information.
  • Ownership – Driven to act as the owner of the business through proactive and sound judgment recommending action and direction to management
  • Self-Starter – Manage own initiatives with high collaboration, and limited direction; can deal with the ambiguity of developing new product categories through seeking a market opportunity
  • Impactful Time Management – Influence and manage schedules and dates effectively through planning and resource allocation
  • Collaborative – Ability to work with a diverse team across marketing, engineering, quality, customer experience, operations, and leadership to negotiate creative solutions
  • Flexible – Ability to pivot quickly when business needs or project needs change
