Job Description

Commodities Controller role will be responsible for all aspects of accounting (including accounting policy, financial reviews and reporting, controls and processes, and business support). Manages financial activities, control measures, and accounting duties of the domestic trading and logistics division by performing the following duties outlined. This role includes supervisory functions and responsibilities for professional management of all trading and logistics trade assistants.

The role will use accounting expertise and other complex areas such as restructuring, business combinations, contingent liabilities, and internal control and process implementation and operational oversight. This position is based in the Greater Kansas City Area.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Lead reviews of key sophisticated transactions during the monthly close process
  • Partner with business CFOs to assess overall business performance on project executions including risk assessment and early warning reporting
  • Coordinate key monthly account reconciliations, journals, reporting schedules
  • Partner with the business in reviewing accounting and financial reporting implications of significant transactions (e.G. Sophisticated project accounting, outstanding licensing/royalty agreements, and other customer contracts, etc.)
  • Provide accounting support on sophisticated transactions to senior leadership, including President, General Managers, CFO and Finance Directors
  • Lead pre and post-close process and effectively communicate insights and results to senior management
  • Collaborate with the business on pivotal initiatives, including identifying cost optimization actions, growth and restructuring opportunities
  • Champion and lead initiatives related to process standardization, automation and internal control improvements
  • Coordinate the implementation of action plans related to internal control deficiencies
  • Coordinate quarterly and annual external financial reporting processes and deliverables
  • Oversee impact assessment and implementation of accounting standards
  • Lead all aspects of accounting, control and process integration for newly acquired businesses
  • Support special projects/pivotal initiatives as required
  • Ability to travel (up to a week per month) and flexibility on mobility required for future roles

You must have
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA (or equivalent) preferred in the commodities or manufacturing space
  • 2+ years controllership/audit experience

  • Experience in multinational public accounting firm (preferably the Big 4) with service to mid or large cap public companies or role in Corporate Controllers organization at a Fortune 500 Company
  • Strong and effective oral and written communication skills
  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively with the business as a team member
  • Ability to lead priorities and drive improvement in execution
  • M&A and integration experience a plus
